The Bulgarian National Bank issued the 20 Leva Zlato banknote in 1916. This series was introduced during the reign of King Ferdinand I, who ruled from 1887 to 1918. The banknote was printed by the Reichsdruckerei in Berlin, Germany, with a total production of 3,010,000 notes.
The obverse features the Bulgarian coat of arms at the upper center, with the denomination "Двадесетъ Лева Злато" (Twenty Leva Gold) below. The reverse displays the numeral "20" within guilloches on both sides. The banknote measures 155 x 100 mm and was demonetized on May 5, 1924.
