About this banknote
The National Bank of Ukraine issued the 20-hryvnia banknote (Pick 120b) in 2005, featuring the signature of Governor Volodymyr S. Stelmakh, who served from December 2004 to December 2010. This banknote is part of a series first introduced on December 1, 2003.
The front of the banknote displays a portrait of Ivan Franko (1856–1916), a renowned Ukrainian poet and writer, along with a facsimile excerpt from one of his works, a mountain landscape, the national coat of arms (Tryzub), and a stylized grivna from the Kievan Rus' era as a registration device. The reverse features the Lviv Theatre of Opera and Ballet, constructed in 1900 by architect Z. Gorgolevsky, and the bronze statue 'Glory' atop its pediment. The banknote measures 130 x 69 mm and has a watermark of Ivan Franko with an electrotype '20'.
