The Bulgarian National Bank issued the 1000 leva banknote in 1943. This series was introduced during the reign of Tsar Boris III, who passed away in August 1943, leading to the ascension of his son, Tsar Simeon II. The banknote was printed by the State Printing House (Държавна печатница) in Sofia, Bulgaria.
