The Banco de México issued the 100 pesos banknote (Pick 118j) on November 20, 2007, as part of the Series D1. This series, introduced in 2001, incorporated enhanced security features, including an iridescent strip and color-shifting ink, to combat counterfeiting.
The front of the banknote features Nezahualcóyotl, a 15th-century philosopher and ruler of Texcoco, depicted on the right side, with an Aztec design at the center. The reverse showcases a 16th-century Aztec statue of Xochipilli, the god of art and dance, from the volcano Popocatépetl near Tlalmanalco. The note measures 155 x 65 mm and includes a solid security thread with demetalized "CIEN" and a watermark of Nezahualcóyotl.
