About this banknote
The National Treasury (Thesouro Nacional) of Brazil issued this 10 Cruzeiros banknote in 1942 as part of the country's currency transition from the mil réis to the cruzeiro. To facilitate this change, existing 10 mil réis notes were overprinted with "CASA DA MOEDA / 10 / CRUZEIROS" in blue rosettes, effectively revaluing them to 10 Cruzeiros.
The front of the note features a central portrait of Manuel Ferraz de Campos Salles, Brazil's fourth president (1898–1902), flanked by the numeral "10" on both sides. An anonymous autograph diagonally crosses the note's body. The overprint, applied in blue rosettes at the upper left and lower right corners, displays "CASA DA MOEDA / 10 / CRUZEIROS." The reverse presents an aerial view from the Monroe Palace, showcasing its gardens and a pavilion of the Public Promenade along Beira-Mar Avenue, based on a photograph by Augusto Malta.
