About this banknote
The National Treasury (Thesouro Nacional) of Brazil issued the 10 mil réis banknote in 1833, following the decree of June 1, 1833. This decree authorized the issuance of paper currency to facilitate economic transactions during the early years of Emperor Pedro II's reign.
The obverse of the note features the Arms of the Empire on the left and a reference to the decree of June 1, 1833, on the right. The central area includes the effigy of Emperor Pedro II as a boy. Printed by Perkins, Bacon & Petch in the United Kingdom, the note measures 185 × 115 mm and was demonetized in 1845.
