About this banknote
The Bank of Zambia issued the 10 kwacha banknote (Pick 51) in 2012 as part of a currency redenomination initiative. This process, effective from January 1, 2013, involved dividing the old currency unit by 1,000 to simplify transactions and accounting. The redenomination was legislated under the Redomination of Currency Act (Act 8 of 2012), enacted on December 3, 2012.
The obverse of the banknote features an African Fish Eagle (Haliaeetus vocifer) and a Lombula tree (Uapaca kirkiana), along with the Coat of Arms of Zambia. The reverse displays an African Porcupine (Hystrix cristata), a harvest scene with farmers, and the "Chain Breaker" statue. The note measures 146 x 70 mm and was printed by Giesecke & Devrient. It bears the signature of Michael M. Gondwe, who served as Governor of the Bank of Zambia from 2011 to 2015.
