About this banknote

The Bank of Zambia issued the 1 kwacha banknote (Pick 19) in 1976 as part of the third series of Zambian currency. This series reintroduced the older frame design and featured an updated portrait of President Kenneth Kaunda. The banknotes were printed by Thomas De La Rue & Co. Limited.

The obverse of the banknote displays a dark brown portrait of President Kaunda in tribal attire on the right, with the national coat of arms at the upper center. The reverse illustrates a farmer plowing a field with a tractor, accompanied by two other farmers using oxen. The banknote measures 128 × 69 mm and was demonetized on July 1, 2013.
