Banknotes of Vanuatu

The official currency of Vanuatu is the Vanuatu vatu (VUV), issued by the Reserve Bank of Vanuatu. Paper money was first introduced in Vanuatu in 1981, coinciding with the nation’s independence from France and the United Kingdom. Notably, in 1982, a significant redesign took place, which featured the unique island motifs emblematic of Vanuatu’s diverse culture. Collectors find Vanuatu banknotes appealing due to their vibrant designs and distinct themes representing local customs and natural scenery. The 2005 series, for instance, showcases the traditional Melanesian culture through artwork and symbols, while incorporating a transparent window feature that enhances the security and aesthetic of the notes.
