The Central Bank of Turkey issued this series of banknotes, featuring the 5,000,000 lira denomination, in 1997. This series was introduced to accommodate the rapid inflation Turkey experienced during the 1990s. Süleyman Gazi Erçel served as the Governor and Selçuk Abaç as the Vice-Governor for this issuance.
The front side design includes a portrait of President Kemal Atatürk at the center right with a gold oval seal dated AH1329 on the right. Detailed in dark brown and red-brown colors on a multicolor underprint, the note is signed by the aforementioned officials. The back design features the Anitkabir complex in Ankara.
