About this banknote
The Central Bank of Venezuela issued the 50,000 bolívares banknote on August 24, 1998. This high-denomination note was introduced during a period of economic adjustments to address inflationary pressures.
The obverse features a red design with a portrait of José María Vargas, painted by Martín Tovar y Tovar in 1875, positioned on the right. The reverse displays the Rector's Square and Clock of the Central University of Venezuela, the araguaney flower, and the national coat of arms. The note measures 156 x 69 mm and was printed by the Casa de la Moneda de Venezuela. It was demonetized on December 31, 2011.
