About this banknote
The Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (Banco Central de la República Argentina) issued the 500 Pesos Argentinos banknote in 1984 as part of the 1983–1985 "Peso Argentino" series. This series was introduced on June 1, 1983, replacing the previous Peso Ley at a rate of 1 Peso Argentino = 10,000 Pesos Ley.
The obverse features a portrait of General José de San Martín on the right side. The reverse displays an illustration of the town meeting held on May 22, 1810, known as "Cabildo abierto del 22 de mayo de 1810," based on a painting by Chilean artist Pedro Subercaseaux. The banknote measures 155 × 75 mm and was printed by Casa de Moneda, Argentina. It was demonetized on December 1, 1987.
