About this banknote
The Bulgarian National Bank issued the 50 leva banknote (Pick 85) on May 12, 1952, as part of the 1951 State Note Issue. This series was introduced to standardize the national currency during the early years of the People's Republic of Bulgaria.
The obverse features a portrait of Georgi Dimitrov, Bulgaria's first communist leader, on the left, with the national coat of arms on the right. The reverse depicts a woman in traditional attire picking roses. The banknote measures 157 x 80 mm and was printed by Goznak in the USSR. It was withdrawn from circulation on March 31, 1962.
