About this banknote
The National Bank of Ukraine issued the 50-hryvnia banknote on March 29, 2004, during the tenure of Governor Serhii Leonidovych Tihipko. This release was part of an effort to modernize the national currency series, incorporating enhanced security features and updated designs.
The obverse features a portrait of historian Mykhailo Hrushevskyi (1866–1934), accompanied by his book "History of Ukraine-Rus" and an image of a Cossack on horseback. The reverse displays the Central Rada building in Kyiv, constructed in 1912 by architect Pavlo Alioshyn, flanked by figures of a female peasant and a male worker. The banknote measures 136 x 72 mm and includes a watermark of Hrushevskyi's portrait with an electrotype "50".
