About this banknote
The Banque de France issued the 50 francs "Racine" banknote series from June 7, 1962, to June 3, 1976. This series was introduced to replace the previous 50 francs "Maupassant" note, aligning with the introduction of the new franc in 1960.
The front of the banknote features a portrait of Jean Racine on the right, with the Port-Royal-des-Champs Abbey in the background. The reverse side displays Racine's bust on the left, the town of La Ferté-Milon in the background, and a statue of Melpomène, the muse of tragedy, from the Louvre Museum. The note measures 160 x 85 mm and was demonetized on December 31, 2003.
