About this banknote
The Central Bank of Venezuela (Banco Central de Venezuela) issued the 50 bolívares banknote on December 19, 2008. This release was part of the Bolívar Fuerte series, introduced in 2007 to replace the previous currency at a rate of 1 Bolívar Fuerte to 1,000 old bolívares.
The front of the banknote features a portrait of Simón Rodríguez (1769–1854), a Venezuelan philosopher and educator, depicted among books and quill pens. The reverse showcases the Laguna del Santo Cristo in the Sierra Nevada National Park, accompanied by an image of the Spectacled Bear (Tremarctos ornatus) and the national coat of arms. This note measures 157 x 69 mm and was printed by the Casa de la Moneda de Venezuela (CMV).
