About this banknote
The Treasury of the United States of Indonesia issued the 5 Rupiah banknote on January 1, 1950. This issuance followed the establishment of the United States of Indonesia on December 27, 1949, marking the transfer of sovereignty from the Netherlands.
The obverse features a portrait of President Sukarno on the right, with the denomination "LIMA RUPIAH" at the center and left. The reverse depicts a rice field bordered by palm trees, with legal text on the right and the denomination on the left and in all corners. The note was printed by Thomas De La Rue & Co. Ltd., London.
