About this banknote
The Republic of Indonesia issued the 1/2 Rupiah banknote on October 17, 1945, as part of its first series of currency, known as Oeang Republik Indonesia (ORI). This issuance marked the establishment of Indonesia's national currency following its declaration of independence on August 17, 1945.
The obverse of the banknote features the denomination "½" prominently in the center, with the inscriptions "REPUBLIK INDONESIA" and "TANDA PEMBAJARAN JANG SAH" above and below, respectively. The date "DJAKARTA 17 OKTOBER 1945" and the title "MENTERI KEUANGAN" are also present. The reverse side contains a promissory text surrounded by fern leaves.
