About this banknote
The Thesouro Nacional issued the 5 Mil Réis banknote in 1923. This note was part of the 18th print series, known as Estampa 18A. It was produced by the Casa da Moeda in Rio de Janeiro.
The obverse features an oval medallion with a portrait of Francisco de Paula Rodrigues Alves, Brazil's fifth president, serving from 1902 to 1906. The reverse displays the denomination in Hindu-Arabic numerals. The note measures 153 x 73 mm and was printed using woodcut techniques, resulting in lower print quality. It was demonetized in 1932.
