About this banknote
The National Bank of Azerbaijan issued the 5 manat banknote in 2005 as part of the "New Manat" series, which was introduced on January 1, 2006, following a currency redenomination that replaced 5,000 old manats with 1 new manat.
The front of the banknote features statues of Azerbaijani literary figures from the Nizami Museum of Azerbaijani Literature in Baku, including Muhammad Fuzuli, Molla Panah Vagif, Mirza Fatali Akhundov, Khurshidbanu Natavan, Jalil Mammadguluzadeh, and Jafar Jabbarly. It also displays a stack of three books and unique characters from the modern Azerbaijani alphabet. The reverse side presents stylized maps illustrating Azerbaijan's integration into Europe, along with Gobustan rock hieroglyphs and the Orkhon-Yenisei alphabet.
