About this banknote
The National Bank of Ukraine issued the 5-hryvnia banknote (Pick 118a) on June 14, 2004. This release introduced enhanced security features to the currency series.
The front of the banknote features a portrait of Bohdan Khmelnytsky, Hetman of the Ukrainian Cossacks, along with his coat of arms and the national emblem, the Tryzub. The reverse depicts the Illinska (St. Elias) Church in Subotiv, built in 1653 as the Khmelnytsky family burial vault. The note measures 118 x 63 mm and includes a watermark of Khmelnytsky's portrait with an electrotype '5'.
