About this banknote

The Assignation Bank, established in 1769, issued the 25-ruble banknote in 1810 as part of the Assignation Banknotes series (1786–1818). This series was introduced to replace earlier issues, many of which had been counterfeited, with the exchange of old notes occurring from September 1, 1786, to July 1, 1787.

The obverse of the 1810 25-ruble note features text without a frame and includes two handwritten signatures. The reverse bears one handwritten signature. The banknote measures 170 x 130 mm and is printed in black on grey paper. Notably, some issues from 1803 to 1811 were counterfeited by the French government during the Napoleonic Wars, known as "Napoleonic forgeries."
