About this banknote
The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe issued the 20,000-dollar bearer cheque on December 1, 2003, during a period of significant economic challenges. This issuance was part of a series of emergency bearer cheques introduced to address severe cash shortages in the country. The note bears the signature of Dr. Gideon Gono, who assumed the role of Governor of the Reserve Bank on December 1, 2003.
The front of the note features the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe logo and includes a watermark of the Zimbabwe Bird (Type 1). The reverse side displays a pink and green underprint with a wave pattern. This bearer cheque was valid for transactions until its expiry date on December 31, 2005, after which it was demonetized on August 21, 2006.
