About this banknote
The Central Bank of Sri Lanka issued the 20 rupees banknote on January 1, 1991, as part of the Sri Lanka Heritage series, which replaced the previous series issued from 1987 to 1990. This series was printed by Thomas De La Rue and Company Limited.
The obverse features a traditional wooden mask depicting the face of Garuda on the right, a side view of a lotus on the bottom left, and a moonstone above decorative elements in the lower center. The reverse depicts two boys fishing while seated on poles, accompanied by conch shells. The banknote measures 129 x 64 mm and includes a watermark of a lion holding a sword, as seen on the national flag.
