About this banknote
The Central Bank of Brazil issued the 20 reais banknote in 2002 as part of the first family of the real currency. This denomination was introduced to facilitate transactions requiring intermediate values between the existing 10 and 50 reais notes.
The obverse features a symbolic effigy of the Republic, depicted as a sculpture, with a tactile mark consisting of two bars on the left for the visually impaired. The reverse displays a golden lion tamarin (Leontopithecus rosalia) perched on a tree branch amidst forest vegetation. This banknote was the first in Brazil to incorporate holographic elements, enhancing its security features.
