The Banco Nacional of Argentina issued the 20 centavos banknote on January 1, 1884, under the Law of October 4, 1883. This series was part of the second issue of fractional currency notes introduced during the first presidency of Julio Argentino Roca.
The obverse features a black print on a light reddish-brown underprint, with the national coat of arms at the left and a portrait of Lieutenant-General Bartolomé Mitre at the right.
