About this banknote

The Banco Central de Venezuela issued the 20 bolívares banknote on January 15, 2018, as part of the Bolívar Soberano series introduced to address hyperinflation. This series replaced the previous currency at a rate of 1 Bolívar Soberano to 100,000 old bolívares.

The front of the note features a portrait of Simón Rodríguez (1769–1854), a Venezuelan philosopher and educator, with open and closed books, quills, and fountain pens. The back depicts a jaguar (Panthera onca) with Waraira Repano National Park in the background, along with the Venezuelan coat of arms. The note measures 156 x 69 mm and includes security features such as a holographic security thread bearing the text "BCV" and a watermark of Simón Bolívar.
