About this banknote
The Bank of Zambia issued the 2 kwacha banknote (Pick 11) in 1969 as part of its second emission of the first kwacha series. This series was introduced to replace the Zambian pound, aligning with the country's transition to a decimal currency system. The banknotes were printed by Thomas De La Rue & Co. Limited and bore the signature of Dr. Justin B. Zulu, the second governor of the Bank of Zambia.
The obverse of the 2 kwacha note features a portrait of President Kenneth Kaunda in tribal attire on the right, with the Coat of Arms at the upper center. The reverse depicts a mining tower and conveyors at the left center, symbolizing Zambia's mining industry. The note measures 135 x 72 mm and has a watermark of President Kaunda. Notably, this emission removed the dot between the currency symbol and the face value, distinguishing it from the previous series.
