About this banknote

The 2 dram banknote was issued in 2004 by the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Artsakh, also known as Nagorno-Karabakh. This series was introduced to establish a distinct currency for the region, although the Armenian dram remained more widely used.

The obverse features the national coat of arms of Nagorno-Karabakh, the Gandzasar Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist located in the Mardakert district, and an image of Saint Gregory the Illuminator. The reverse displays a bas-relief Christian cross and a depiction of John the Baptist baptizing Jesus Christ. The banknote measures 150 x 80 mm and was printed by the Austrian State Printing House (Österreichische Staatsdruckerei).
