About this banknote
The National Bank of Romania issued the 1,000,000 lei banknote in 1947. This high-denomination note was introduced during a period of significant economic change, culminating in the monetary reform of August 15, 1947, which replaced the old leu at a rate of 20,000 old lei to 1 new leu.
The obverse features portraits of Roman Emperor Trajan and Dacian King Decebal at the center. The reverse depicts two farmers on the left, the national coat of arms in the center, and two women with a child on the right. The banknote measures 190 x 90 mm and has a wavy left edge.
