About this banknote
The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe issued the 100,000-dollar Traveller's Cheque in 2003 as part of its Emergency Traveller's Cheques series. This series was introduced to address severe cash shortages during a period of hyperinflation. The cheques were signed by Dr. Gideon Gono, who served as the Governor of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe from 2003 to 2013.
The front of the cheque features the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe's logo and includes the text "ZIMBABWE DOLLAR TRAVELLERS CHEQUE" and "RESERVE BANK OF ZIMBABWE." It also states, "When countersigned here by the holder in the presence of the person cashing will pay the order of One Hundred Thousand Zimbabwe Dollars." The cheque measures 148 x 75 mm and is printed on cotton paper. A watermark of the Zimbabwe Bird Type 3 is present as a security feature. These cheques were valid only within Zimbabwe and were intended for use during the economic crisis of the early 2000s.
