The Royal Treasury of Portugal issued the 10,000 réis banknote in 1826 as part of the "D. Pedro IV" revalidation series. This series involved overprinting existing notes with a red crowned "D. Pedro IV 1826" stamp to affirm their validity under the new monarch, King Pedro IV.
The front of the note features six oval vignettes along the top, including a winged cherub approaching a stylized beehive at the upper left, a pastoral scene with a castle in the background, and a cherub with a dog at the upper right.
