About this banknote
The Bank of Uganda issued the 1000 shilling note in 1996. It was part of an effort to modernize and improve the security features of the national currency. This series continued the transition to larger denominations that began in the 1990s to facilitate larger transactions.
The front side of the banknote depicts a farmer using a hoe, with prominent corn and banana plants, while the reverse features an industrial grain silo and two trucks. The note is predominantly green and brown. Pick number 36, it reflects Uganda's agricultural and industrial focus in its design.
