The official currency of Uganda is the Ugandan shilling, issued by the Bank of Uganda, which was established in 1966. Paper money was first introduced in Uganda in 1987, following a significant currency reform that replaced the earlier pound currency. In 2012, Uganda launched a new series of banknotes featuring enhanced security features, including a transparent window.
Collectors are drawn to Uganda's banknotes due to their vibrant colors and detailed designs. The 200 shilling note from the 2010 series is especially noted for depicting the famous African Grey Parrot, highlighting the country's biodiversity. Additionally, many notes feature images of prominent Ugandan figures, enriching their appeal to collectors.
