About this banknote
The Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (Banco Central de la República Argentina) issued the 1,000 Pesos Argentinos banknote in 1984 as part of the 1983-1985 "Peso Argentino" series. This series was introduced to replace the previous currency, the peso ley, in an effort to stabilize the nation's economy.
The front of the banknote features a portrait of General José de San Martín on the right side. The reverse side depicts the scene "El Paso de los Andes," illustrating General San Martín's army crossing the Andes in January 1817, based on Augusto Ballerini’s painting. The banknote measures 155 x 75 mm and was printed by Casa de Moneda de la Nación (Argentina). It includes a watermark of multiple sunbursts and was demonetized on August 1, 1988.
