The Banco Central de la República Argentina issued the 1,000 Pesos Argentinos banknote (Pick 317) between 1983 and 1985. This series was introduced during a period of economic transition, replacing the previous peso ley currency with the peso argentino in 1983.
The obverse features a portrait of General José de San Martín on the right side. The reverse displays an illustration of "El Paso de los Andes," a painting by Augusto Ballerini depicting the 1817 crossing of the Andes by San Martín's army. The banknote measures 155 x 75 mm and was printed by Casa de Moneda, Argentina. It was demonetized on August 1, 1988.
