The Banco de España issued the 1000 pesetas banknote dated November 4, 1949. This series was introduced into circulation on April 20, 1951. The note was signed by Governor Antonio Goicoechea Cosculluela, Comptroller Antonio Victoriano Martín Martín, and Cashier Joaquín Serrano García.
The obverse features a portrait of Ramón de Santillán, the first Governor of the Bank of Spain, based on a painting by José Gutiérrez de la Vega. The reverse displays Francisco de Goya's painting "El Bebedor," housed in the Museo del Prado in Madrid.
