About this banknote
The Banco de España issued the 1000 pesetas banknote on May 20, 1938, during the Spanish Civil War. This note was part of a series produced for the Nationalist faction, with the bank's headquarters located in Burgos at that time. The banknote was printed by Giesecke & Devrient in Leipzig, Germany.
The front of the banknote features geometric designs and the Nationalist coat of arms of Spain. The back showcases the painting "Heroic Combat in the Pulpit of the Church of San Agustín de Zaragoza in the Second Siege of 1809" by César Álvarez Dumont, which is exhibited in the Museo del Prado in Madrid. The note measures 170 x 96 mm and was issued in Series A.
