About this banknote
The Bank of Estonia (Eesti Pank) issued the 100-krooni banknote in 1999 as part of the Second Estonian Kroon series, which circulated from 1992 until the adoption of the euro in 2011. This series was introduced to replace the Soviet ruble following Estonia's regained independence in 1991.
The obverse features a portrait of poet and playwright Lydia Koidula, accompanied by a nightingale from her work "Emajõe Ööbik" (The Nightingale of the Emajõgi River). The reverse displays lines from Koidula's poem "Unenägu" (Dream) and depicts stormy waves crashing against a limestone cliff. The note measures 140 x 69 mm and was printed by Bundesdruckerei in Berlin. It was demonetized on January 15, 2011, following Estonia's transition to the euro.
