About this banknote

The Banque de France issued the 100 francs banknote, commonly known as the "Merson," between 1923 and 1937. This series, designed by Luc-Olivier Merson, was introduced to replace the previous 100 francs "bleu et rose" note.

The front of the banknote features allegorical representations of Agriculture and Commerce, each accompanied by a child, with intricate fruit and vegetal decorations. The reverse depicts allegories of Labor, represented by a blacksmith, and Fortune, shown as a woman with a child holding a cornucopia. The note measures 182 x 112 mm and was demonetized on June 4, 1945.
