About this banknote
The Banco Central do Brasil issued the 10 reais banknote (Pick 245) in 1997 as part of the ongoing Real series introduced in 1994. This series aimed to stabilize the Brazilian economy by replacing the previous currency with the real. In 1997, the banknote's watermark was changed from the effigy of the Republic to the national flag to enhance security and reduce counterfeiting.
The obverse features the symbolic effigy of the Republic, depicted as a sculpture, with the denomination "10 REAIS" and inscriptions including "BANCO CENTRAL DO BRASIL" and "DEUS SEJA LOUVADO." The reverse showcases a red-and-green macaw (Ara chloroptera), a large parrot native to Brazil, with the denomination "10" and "DEZ REAIS." The banknote measures 140 x 65 mm and includes a solid security thread and a watermark of the Brazilian flag.
