The South African Reserve Bank issued the 10 rand banknote (Pick 133) in 2012 as part of a new series featuring Nelson Mandela's portrait. President Jacob Zuma announced this series on February 11, 2012, and the banknotes entered circulation on November 6, 2012.
The front of the note displays a right-facing portrait of Nelson Mandela, with the South African coat of arms in the top left corner. The reverse features a rhinoceros head at the center. The note measures 128 x 70 mm and is predominantly green. It was printed by the South African Bank Note Company and bears the signature of Gill Marcus, who served as Governor from 2009 to 2014.
