About this banknote
The Central Bank of Brazil issued the 10 cruzeiros novos banknote in 1966 as part of a currency reform to address inflation. This reform introduced the cruzeiro novo, valued at 1,000 old cruzeiros, and involved overprinting existing 10,000 cruzeiros notes with the new denomination.
The front of the banknote features a portrait of aviation pioneer Alberto Santos-Dumont on the right side. A black circular overprint with "BANCO CENTRAL" and the new currency unit is superimposed on the original design. The back depicts the 14 Bis aircraft in flight. Printed by the American Bank Note Company, the note measures 164 x 72 mm and was produced in a quantity of 11,000,000.
