About this banknote

The Banco Central de la República Argentina issued this 1 peso banknote between 1969 and 1971. It was created by overprinting the new denomination on existing 100 pesos notes (Pick #277) as a provisional measure during the transition to the peso ley 18.188 currency, which replaced the peso moneda nacional at a rate of 100 to 1.

The front features a red-brown portrait of General José de San Martín in uniform on the right. The back displays a depiction of Spanish settlers and indigenous people, inspired by José Moreno Carbonero's painting "Segunda Fundación de Buenos Aires." This note, measuring 162 x 81 mm, was printed by the Casa de Moneda de la Nación and was demonetized on March 29, 1978.
