About this banknote
The Banco de México S.A. issued the 1 peso banknote (Pick 59) on December 4, 1957. This series was introduced to replace earlier designs and included the addition of "MEXICO D.F." above the date at the lower left on the front side.
The front of the note features the Aztec Sun Stone, also known as the Piedra del Sol, at the center. The reverse displays the Monumento a la Independencia, designed by architect Antonio Rivas Mercado and sculptor Enrique Alciati. Printed by the American Bank Note Company, the note measures 158 x 67 mm and was demonetized on January 1, 1996.
