About this banknote
The Bank of Spain issued the 1 peseta banknote dated June 15, 1945, with the serial number printed in red ink. This note was officially released into circulation on April 17, 1946. The banknote was printed by the Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre.
The obverse features a half-length portrait of Queen Isabella I of Castile facing right, with a border displaying various coats of arms of the Spanish kingdoms. The reverse depicts a map of the Indies from Juan de Oliva's maritime atlas, accompanied by an indigenous figure to the right and columns with ribbons and mottos on both sides. The banknote measures 85 × 59 mm and was engraved by José Luis López Sánchez-Toda.
