About this banknote
The People's Republic of Bulgaria issued the 1 lev banknote in 1951 as part of a currency reform to stabilize the economy following World War II. This reform introduced a new lev, replacing the old currency at a rate of 1 new lev to 100 old leva.
The front of the banknote features the national coat of arms on the left side. The reverse side displays an image of upright hands holding a hammer and sickle. The note measures 116 x 56 mm and was printed by Goznak, the Russian state printing company. It was demonetized on March 31, 1962.
