About this banknote
The Norges Bank issued the 1-krone banknote in 1943 during the German occupation of Norway in World War II. Due to a shortage of metal for coinage, the bank introduced these small denomination notes, known as "skillemyntsedler," between 1940 and 1950.
The 1943 1-krone note measures 100 x 64 mm and features a dark brown design on a green underprint. The obverse displays the text "1 KRONE" with a vignette of the numerical denomination, while the reverse also includes a vignette with the numerical denomination. These notes remained legal tender until July 13, 1999.
