About this banknote
The Norges Bank issued the 1 krone banknote in 1942, during the German occupation of Norway in World War II. This series was produced by Waterlow & Sons Ltd. in London under the authority of the Norwegian government-in-exile. The notes were intended to replace existing currency after the war's end, with a total of 600 million kroner printed in the 1942 issue.
The obverse features the denomination "1" to the left, with the year "1942" above it, and the text "NORGES BANK" and "EN KRONE" to the right. The reverse displays the crowned monogram of King Haakon VII at the center, with the denomination "1" on either side. These notes were not circulated during the war but were prepared for post-war currency exchange.
