About this banknote
The Reserve Bank of Australia issued the one-dollar banknote in 1976, featuring the signatures of H. M. Knight and F. H. Wheeler. This series continued the design introduced in 1966, which replaced the 10-shilling note following Australia's decimalisation. The note remained in circulation until it was replaced by the one-dollar coin in 1984.
The obverse of the note displays a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the Order of the Garter mantle, based on a 1964 photograph by Douglas Glass, alongside the Australian coat of arms. The reverse features Aboriginal artwork by David Malangi, depicting the "mortuary feast" of Gunmirringu, a creation ancestor. The note measures 140 x 70 mm and includes security features such as a watermark of Captain James Cook and a metallic security thread.
